Thirteen-year-olds Leo (Eden Dambrine) and Remi (Gustav De Waele) have been best friends since childhood. The boys spend the night at each other's houses more often than they spend the night in their own homes. However, when moving to middle school, things change. New friends will join the patterns. Lukas Dhont's second feature film Close is a story about friendship and responsibility and the courage to be yourself. The premiere of the film at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival inspired the audience to give a long standing ovation and moved the audience strongly from one performance to the next. The film, which exudes an exceptionally strong empathy, won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. Dhont's first directorial effort, Girl, was also awarded the Camera D'Or award at Cannes in 2018. Close was nominated for the Oscar for Best International Film in 2022.
