Romantic drama set in India and directed by James Ivory. Anne (Julie Christie), an Englishwoman living in India, attempts to find out more about a family scandal from sixty years ago involving her great aunt Olivia (Greta Scacchi) and an Indian Prince (Shashi Kapoor). As Anne's search intensifies and she uncovers more secrets about Olivia's sensual past she begins to see parallels with her own life.
