Don Cherry and Ed Blackwell, both alumni of the revolutionary Ornette Coleman quartet, showcase their extraordinary synergy in this seminal free jazz set, recorded in Paris during the late '60s. The album emphasizes the life-giving, often magical qualities of pure sound, with Cherry playing a range of instruments including Indian and bamboo flutes and his signature pocket trumpet.
Significantly, the composition "Mu" is entirely built on improvisation—not just the solos but the entire piece, including the order and duration of the parts, which arose spontaneously within the session without any preconceived plan.
