Lars von Triers Breaking the Waves, starring Emily Watson and Stellan Skarsgård, follows a devout young woman in a remote Scottish village whose faith and love are tested when her husband becomes paralyzed in an accident. Blending religious devotion, sacrifice, and emotional extremity, it is one of von Triers most haunting and spiritually provocative dramas.
