Directed by Sam Raimi and starring Liam Neeson, Darkman (1990) blends superhero mythology with violent revenge action and gothic pulp aesthetics. The film follows a scientist left horribly disfigured after a brutal attack, who uses experimental technology to hunt down the criminals who destroyed his life. Released before the modern comic book boom, Darkman has become a cult favorite for its mix of comic book energy, horror atmosphere and stylized action.
