Demons of the Mind is a British gothic horror film centered on an aristocratic family whose history of incest, madness, and repression erupts into violence. As fear of hereditary insanity fuels cruelty and confinement, psychological terror overtakes supernatural explanation. The film is a bleak Hammer-era exploration of madness, sexuality, and generational trauma.

One of Hammers most ambitious and under-appreciated films, Demons of the Mind explores the Baron Zorns (Robert Hardy) conviction that his son Emil (Shane Briant) and daughter Elizabeth (Gillian Hills) are suffering from a hereditary madness. In an attempt to contain their insanity, he keeps them imprisoned and drugged, yet these measures are not enough to stop his children from expressing their decadent desires and violent natures. Desperate for a cure, Zorn employs the discredited Dr. Falkenberg (Patrick Magee) to investigate his familys plight…
