A highly sensitive person (HSP) is a term for those who have an increased central nervous system sensitivity to physical, emotional or social stimuli. High sensitivity is not a ‘condition’, it is a normal human trait. This book explores what it means and feels to experience life as a highly sensitive person. HSPs comprise about a fifth of the human population, both male and female, although it may be less observable in the behaviour of many males because of upbringing and cultural stereotypes.
