Mamoru Oshii directs this Japanese anime based on the manga written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. In 2029, cybernetic technology has advanced to the point where the human body can be enhanced or even completely replaced with cybernetic parts. Major Motoko Kusanagi (voice of Maaya Sakamoto) is a heavily-modified elite agent working for Section 9 who is tasked with stopping the Puppet Master (Iemasa Kayumi), a mysterious foe capable of hacking into the minds of his human victims and using them as puppets to carry out his evil deeds.
