Directed by Alan Parker, Mississippi Burning stars Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe as two FBI agents investigating the disappearance of three civil rights workers in 1960s Mississippi. The film is based on the real-life murders of James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner, and follows the investigation through a community shaped by racism, intimidation and institutional violence. Frances McDormand received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and the film won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography.
