Peter McEnery and Glenda Jackson star in this drama directed by Peter Medak. Embittered lovers Theo and Vivien (McEnery and Jackson) indulge in role-play together where they pretend to be the killer Dr. Crippen and his female victims. When they meet Reingard (Diane Cilento), a German photographer, she introduces a new fantasy to Theo involving WWI pilot Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron. As fantasy becomes more important to Theo than reality, the balance of power between him and Vivien shifts, with devastating consequences.
