Directed by Paolo Cavara and starring Michele Placido and Corinne Cléry, Plot of Fear follows a police inspector investigating a series of violent murders connected to sadomasochistic parties and wealthy social circles in Rome. Combining murder mystery, psychological tension and exploitation-infused Italian thriller elements, the film centers on corruption, sexual obsession and escalating violence within an upper-class urban environment. The film blends giallo-inspired suspense with the darker tone associated with 1970s European crime thrillers.

Inspector Lomenzo (Placido) investigates a series of bizarre murders, each linked by the fact that pages from the German childrens book Shock-Headed Peter have been left at the scene of the crime. As the bodies pile up, Lomenzo is guided by a model (Cléry) and a surveillance expert (Wallach) to a decadent club frequented by the rich and powerful...

Co-written by long-time Federico Fellini collaborator Bernadino Zapponi (who also co-wrote Dario Argentos Deep Red), and incorporating a specially produced erotic animation by Francesco Maurizio Guido aka Gibba (best-known for his comic cartoon King Dick), Plot of Fear is a disturbing and engrossing giallo.
