Yorgos Lanthimos Poor Things (2023) is a surreal mix of science fiction, dark fantasy, and satirical black comedy. Emma Stone stars as Bella Baxter, a woman brought back to life by an eccentric scientist (Willem Dafoe) and set free on a transformative journey through fantastical European landscapes. With its steampunk inventions, Victorian gothic design, and Lanthimos trademark absurdist humor, the film explores themes of liberation, identity, and female autonomy. Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, it has become one of the decades most acclaimed visionary films.
