Directed by Ted Kotcheff, First Blood stars Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo, a Vietnam veteran pushed into conflict with a small-town police force. Richard Crenna and Brian Dennehy co-star in a survival-driven action thriller about trauma, pursuit, militarised response and one man hunted through the wilderness. The film introduced Rambo as one of 1980s action cinemas defining characters.
