Directed by Iván Zulueta, Arrebato follows horror filmmaker José Sirgado, whose drug dependence and creative stagnation become entangled with the mysterious Super-8 films sent to him by an obsessive amateur filmmaker named Pedro. As cinema, addiction and altered perception increasingly merge, the camera itself seems to acquire a destructive supernatural power. The Spanish film developed a lasting cult reputation through its hallucinatory treatment of filmmaking, obsession and self-destruction.
