Directed by Ingmar Bergman, Smiles of a Summer Night (1955) stars Gunnar Björnstrand, Eva Dahlbeck and Harriet Andersson in a romantic comedy of manners revolving around love, jealousy and shifting relationships. Set among Swedens upper class, the film follows several intertwined couples whose romantic entanglements come to a head during a summer weekend in the countryside. The film won the Best Poetic Humour award at the Cannes Film Festival and became one of Bergmans first major international successes.
