Directed by Sam Peckinpah and starring Jason Robards and Stella Stevens, The Ballad of Cable Hogue follows a prospector left to die in the desert who discovers a water spring and turns it into a successful stagecoach stop. His growing relationship with Hildy and the arrival of the automobile place his independent frontier life against a West that is rapidly disappearing. The film combines western drama, offbeat comedy and romance with Peckinpahs revisionist view of the changing American frontier
