Directed by Michael Anderson and based on the books by Paul Brickhill and RAF officer Guy Gibson, The Dam Busters dramatizes the real World War II mission in which the Royal Air Force targeted German dams using specially designed bouncing bombs. Richard Todd stars as Guy Gibson alongside Michael Redgrave in one of Britains most recognized wartime aviation films. The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Special Effects and became a major influence on later military action and war productions.
