Directed by Mamoru Hosoda, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time follows high school student Makoto Konno after she discovers the ability to travel backwards through time. Based on the book by Yasutaka Tsutsui, the film blends coming-of-age storytelling, friendship and romance with science-fiction concepts. Widely regarded as one of the defining anime films of the 2000s, it helped establish Hosoda as one of Japans most important modern animation directors.
