Directed by Carl Reiner, The Jerk (1979) stars Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters. The film follows Navin R. Johnson, an awkward and endlessly optimistic man whose unlikely journey takes him from poverty to wealth and back again through a series of absurd adventures and misunderstandings. Combining slapstick humour, satire and heartfelt moments, the film became one of Steve Martins breakthrough roles on the big screen.
