Directed by Álex de la Iglesia, The Last Circus (2010) is a violent Spanish circus nightmare blending black comedy, psychological drama and horror against the backdrop of Franco-era Spain. Starring Carlos Areces, Antonio de la Torre and Carolina Bang, the film follows two rival clowns whose obsession with the same trapeze artist spirals into grotesque violence and emotional destruction. Combining surreal imagery, tragic romance and exploitation-style brutality, the film became one of Álex de la Iglesias most internationally discussed works.
