Directed by Michael Winner, The Nightcomers (1971) stars Marlon Brando in a controversial prequel to Henry James The Turn of the Screw. The film explores the psychological and moral corruption preceding the classic ghost story, blending period drama with unsettling psychological tension and themes of repression and manipulation. The production remains notable for Brandos provocative performance and its darker reinterpretation of the source material.
