The Snake Woman (1961), directed by Sidney J. Furie, follows a child born under mysterious circumstances whose connection to serpent mythology leads to fear and suspicion within a rural community. The film combines folkloric elements with transformation themes and small-community paranoia characteristic of early British horror cinema.

Hammer Films

An Edwardian detective investigates a series of venomous deaths in this thrilling monster horror from award-winning director Sidney J. Furie. Featuring superstitious villagers, murderous hags, a supernatural wild spirit and a modern take on the other in society, The Snake Woman has been painstakingly restored by Hammer from scans from the original film negatives.

Controlling his wifes madness with regular doses of snake venom, Dr Adderson is horrified when she dies giving birth to an unblinking daughter who is cold to the touch. The demented midwife, chased out of the house after trying to murder the baby, returns with an angry mob who set the house ablaze.
