Directed by special-effects artist Yoshihiro Nishimura, Tokyo Gore Police stars Audition actress Eihi Shiina as Ruka, a sword-wielding officer working for a privatised police force in a violent near-future Tokyo. She is assigned to hunt genetically altered criminals whose wounds transform into weapons, while investigating the murder of her father. The Japanese film combines dystopian science-fiction horror, body mutation and action with extensive practical gore, splatter and exploitation imagery.
