For Swedish piano rising star Joel Lyssarides, substance and depth always come before flashy concepts, emotion and expression before sheer virtuosity. The strengths of his long-standing trio are equally found in the details: in subtle nuances, the finest facets of harmony, groove and dynamics that together create a musical picture far greater than the sum of its parts. It is probably also the reason why Joel Lyssarides is in demand on so many different levels: as an accompanist for Nils Landgren, Viktoria Tolstoy and many others; as the pianist of the e.s.t. tribute project with Dan Berglund and Magnus Öström; and as a composer for video game music and pop productions.
His new album Late on Earth is the result of a process spanning more than four years – an intense journey of self-reflection and an ongoing exchange with producer Andreas Brandis. “The most important change compared to earlier recordings was that I consciously pushed beyond my limits, while at the same time allowing myself to let go and stop striving for perfection. In the end, it is often precisely the imperfect that makes our art human and interesting."

Imperfection may be a relative term for Lyssarides, who often spends eight hours a day at the piano. Yet this exploration of personal limits is a clear expression of his ongoing search for deeply felt, sincere emotion – and of his equally deep desire to share it with his audience.
