David Bennent stars in this Volker Schlöndorff drama as Oskar Matzerath, a young boy born with the knowledge of an adult, who decides at the age of three to stop growing. With World War II looming, Oskar refuses to conform to the middle class ways of his parents and instead takes the tin drum given to him for his third birthday and uses it as a way of protesting against the world.
