Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Richard Dreyfuss, Close Encounters of the Third Kind follows an ordinary man whose life changes after witnessing mysterious aerial phenomena linked to extraterrestrial visitors. The film combines science fiction, mystery and large-scale spectacle as multiple people become drawn toward a remote location connected to possible alien contact. Close Encounters of the Third Kind received several Academy Award nominations and became one of the defining alien encounter films of the 1970s.
