The Daimajin trilogy (1966) from Daiei Film uniquely fuses Japanese period drama with kaiju spectacle. Set in feudal Japan, the films follow villagers oppressed by tyrannical warlords who awaken the giant stone guardian Daimajin to deliver vengeance. Blending samurai cinema, dark fantasy myth, and towering kaiju destruction, the trilogy stands as one of the most striking genre hybrids in Japanese cinema.
