Directed by Wolfgang Petersen, Das Boot follows the crew of the German submarine U-96 during a dangerous patrol in the Atlantic in 1941. Jürgen Prochnow stars as the experienced commander, while Herbert Grönemeyer plays a war correspondent confronting the fear, exhaustion and confinement of life beneath the surface. Based on Lothar-Günther Buchheims book, the German film combines World War II drama, military suspense and survival within the increasingly claustrophobic submarine.
