Election (1999), directed by Alexander Payne, is a sharp political satire set at an American high school, where a student council election spirals into manipulation, obsession, and moral compromise. Starring Reese Witherspoon in a widely acclaimed breakout performance, the film skewers ambition, power, and hypocrisy through dark humor. Blending comedy with biting social commentary, Election became a defining satire of late-1990s American culture.
