Flags of Our Fathers (2006)
Directed by Clint Eastwood, Flags of Our Fathers examines the lives of the U.S. Marines photographed raising the flag on Iwo Jima and how that image was used on the American home front. The film contrasts battlefield reality with the political demands of wartime publicity, exploring memory, trauma, and the construction of heroism. Its parallel timelines and documentary-influenced tone create a reflective portrait of soldiers caught between history and myth.

Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)
Letters from Iwo Jima, also directed by Eastwood, tells the Battle of Iwo Jima from the Japanese perspective, drawing on personal letters and first-hand accounts. The film focuses on duty, cultural expectation, and the human cost of war, presenting the conflict through intimate, character-centered storytelling. Its restrained style and empathetic approach stand as a powerful counterpart to Flags of Our Fathers, forming a unified exploration of war from opposing sides.
