In medieval Sweden, a young girl is raped and murdered by her attackers, who unknowingly seek shelter at her familys farm. The film initiates Bergmans famous Faith Trilogy, exploring Gods silence, mental illness and familial pain with stark intimacy. Harriet Anderssons performance is haunting and deeply human.

Winter Light (1963)
