Directed by Li Xijie and Zhang Zhulin, Ip Man: The Awakening stars Xie Miao as a younger Ip Man in a standalone martial-arts film about the Wing Chun master. Chen Guanying, Zhao Yuxuan and Hou Tongjiang co-star in a story involving street violence, trafficking, gangsters and Ip Mans early years in Hong Kong. The film connects the Ip Man screen tradition with kung-fu action, young-master storytelling and Chinese martial-arts cinema.
