Lars von Triers Breaking the Waves follows a deeply religious young woman who makes a shocking personal sacrifice to save the man she loves after he becomes paralyzed in an accident. Shot in a raw, handheld style, the film explores faith, love, morality and suffering on the Scottish coast. It became one of von Triers most acclaimed works and a defining film of the Dogme 95 movement.

Antichrist is a psychological and visceral horror film about a grieving couple who retreat to a remote forest cabin after the death of their child, only to descend into madness, guilt and violence. Blending art-house cinema with extreme horror and religious symbolism, Lars von Trier crafts a disturbing meditation on nature, gender, pain and evil. Controversial and divisive, it is one of his boldest and most provocative films.

In Melancholia, Lars von Trier blends apocalyptic science fiction with intimate psychological drama as a mysterious planet threatens to collide with Earth. The story centers on two sisters played by Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg grappling with depression, fear and acceptance in the face of inevitable doom. Visually poetic and emotionally devastating, it is both a study of mental illness and a haunting end-of-the-world vision.

Nymphomaniac tells the life story of a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe, who recounts her erotic and painful experiences to a stranger who finds her battered in an alley. Across two volumes, Lars von Trier explores sexuality, shame, addiction, trauma and human desire with unflinching honesty and dark humor. The film blends art, philosophy and provocation, pushing boundaries of explicit storytelling
