Inspired by Edgar Allan Poes story, Murders in the Rue Morgue is a gothic horror mystery set within a traveling theater troupe in 19th-century Paris. Starring Jason Robards and Herbert Lom, the film combines murder mystery, psychological instability and period horror elements while blurring the line between staged performance and real violence. The production is associated with the stylized Poe-inspired horror films of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
