Directed by Bong Joon-ho, Parasite (2019) is a South Korean drama following a struggling family who gradually infiltrate the household of a wealthy family through deception and manipulation. Starring Song Kang-ho, the film explores class division, economic inequality and social ambition as the relationship between the two households becomes increasingly unstable. The film won the Palme dOr at the Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Picture, becoming the first non-English-language film to receive the award. Mixing social satire with thriller elements, the story shifts between dark humor, tension and class conflict within modern urban society.
