Petes Dragon (1977)
Directed by Don Chaffey, Petes Dragon (1977) follows an orphaned boy and his invisible, animated dragon friend Elliott as they seek safety in a small coastal town. The film blends live-action musical storytelling with hand-drawn animation, emphasizing themes of found family, trust, and childhood resilience. Its mix of whimsical fantasy and heartwarming songs made it a classic of Disneys late-1970s era.

Petes Dragon (2016)
Directed by David Lowery, the 2016 reimagining of Petes Dragon takes a more grounded, emotional approach, following a young boy who survives in the forest for years with the help of a gentle, fully CGI dragon. The film blends lyrical adventure with intimate character drama, exploring wonder, loss, and the meaning of home. Its naturalistic tone, atmospheric visuals, and heartfelt storytelling offer a modern reinterpretation of the original tale.
