Nicolas Winding Refns Pusher (1996) is a raw Danish crime drama that dives deep into Copenhagens drug underworld. Starring Kim Bodnia and Zlatko Burić, it set the tone for Refns gritty, realistic style and launched one of European cinemas most acclaimed crime trilogies.

In Pusher II (2004), Nicolas Winding Refn shifts focus to Tonny, played by Mads Mikkelsen, in a bleak continuation of Copenhagens criminal underworld. More character-driven than the first film, it mixes gangster grit with a tragic family and identity drama.

Pusher III (2005) follows Milo (Zlatko Burić), an aging drug lord balancing business, family, and addiction in an increasingly violent Copenhagen underworld. Nicolas Winding Refn delivers the trilogys darkest entry, blending crime tension with grim social realism.
