Directed by Fritz Lang and starring Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett and Dan Duryea, Scarlet Street follows a lonely cashier and amateur painter who becomes obsessed with a younger woman, unaware that she and her lover are exploiting him for money. Based on Georges de La Fouchardières La Chienne and remaking Jean Renoirs 1931 film, it develops into a dark film noir about deception, obsession, crime and moral collapse. Lang reunited the three leads after The Woman in the Window (1944).
