Directed by Wes Craven, Scream (1996) follows high school student Sidney Prescott as a masked killer begins targeting teenagers in the small town of Woodsboro. As the murders escalate, a local investigation and media attention intensify the paranoia among the group of friends. The film combines a self-aware approach to slasher conventions with a contemporary murder mystery structure.
