Efter en av sina snattningsrundor tillsammans med sin son upptäcker Osamu en ensam flicka som står och fryser i kylan. De tar hand om henne och släpper in henne i sin familj. En familj som trots att de är fattiga och knappt har mat för dagen ser till att må bra tillsammans. Men en oväntad händelse avslöjar gömda hemligheter och sätter deras sammanhållning på hårda prov.


Directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, Shoplifters (2018) is a Japanese drama following a poor family living on the margins of society who survive through petty theft and informal work in Tokyo. Starring Lily Franky and Sakura Ando, the film explores family bonds, poverty and moral ambiguity after the group takes in a neglected young girl. The film won the Palme dOr at the Cannes Film Festival and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Set within cramped apartments and working-class environments, the story focuses on emotional survival, social systems and unconventional definitions of family.
