Spike Lees Summer of Sam (1999) portrays New Yorks blistering 1977 summer when fear of the Son of Sam serial killings consumed the city. As paranoia spreads through an Italian-American neighborhood, suspicion and hysteria fracture friendships and identities. Mixing true crime, social commentary, and punk-era energy, Lee turns a serial killer backdrop into a vivid portrait of urban tension and moral decay.
