Feng Xiaogangs The Banquet reimagines Hamlet as an opulent Chinese court tragedy during the Tang Dynasty. Zhang Ziyi stars as an ambitious empress ensnared in betrayal, forbidden love, and vengeance amid dazzling martial-arts choreography and lavish production design. Blending Shakespearean drama with stylized swordplay and palace intrigue, it stands out as a visually sumptuous Asian cinema spectacle of power and fate.

Från IMDB:
A loose adaptation of Hamlet, The Night Banquet is set in an empire in chaos. The Emperor, the Empress, the Crown Prince, the Minister and the General all have their own enemies they would like to finish off at a night banquet.
