The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953), directed by Eugène Lourié, is a landmark science fiction monster film that helped launch the atomic-age creature feature craze of the 1950s. It features groundbreaking stop-motion effects by Ray Harryhausen and is loosely inspired by Ray Bradburys short story The Fog Horn.

After a nuclear bomb test in the Arctic, a prehistoric dinosaur known as the Rhedosaurus is awakened from its frozen slumber. The creature begins a destructive journey down the North Atlantic, eventually reaching New York City, where it wreaks havoc on Manhattan. The only man who initially believes in the monsters existence is physicist Tom Nesbitt, who witnessed it during the test. As the beasts rampage escalates, the military scrambles to stop it - culminating in a dramatic showdown at Coney Island.
