Directed by Ridley Scott, The Martian stars Matt Damon as astronaut Mark Watney, who is presumed dead and left behind on Mars after his crew is forced to abandon its mission. Using his scientific knowledge and limited resources, Watney must survive alone while NASA and the remaining Ares III crew attempt to bring him home. Based on Andy Weirs book, the science-fiction survival film also stars Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Jeff Daniels and received seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Damon.
