Directed by Ernst Lubitsch and starring James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan, The Shop Around the Corner is a romantic comedy set around a small Budapest gift shop. The film follows two co-workers whose tense real-world relationship contrasts with the affectionate anonymous letters they exchange without knowing each others identities. The film is widely associated with the sophisticated Hollywood romantic comedies of the 1940s and later inspired several remakes and adaptations.
