Directed by Stephen Frears and based on Roddy Doyles book, The Snapper follows twenty-year-old Sharon Curley, whose unexpected pregnancy sends shockwaves through her large working-class Dublin family. As Sharon refuses to reveal the fathers identity, embarrassment, gossip and family tensions are balanced by the Curleys rough-edged humour and loyalty. The film won the Peoples Choice Award at the 1993 Toronto International Film Festival, while Colm Meaney received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance
