Directed by Curtis Harrington, Whoever Slew Auntie Roo? (1972) stars Shelley Winters, Mark Lester and Ralph Richardson. Loosely inspired by Hansel and Gretel, the film follows two orphaned children who become involved with a wealthy and eccentric widow living in a secluded mansion. Combining psychological suspense, gothic atmosphere and dark fairy-tale elements, the film is a distinctive blend of early 1970s horror and mystery.
