Directed by Lynne Ramsay, You Were Never Really Here (2017) stars Joaquin Phoenix as a traumatized veteran and hired rescuer specializing in recovering missing girls from violent criminal networks. Based on the novella by Jonathan Ames, the film combines brutal violence with psychological tension and neo-noir atmosphere as the protagonist uncovers corruption tied to political and criminal power. The story explores trauma, isolation and moral collapse through an intensely subjective perspective.
