Directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Al Pacino and John Cazale, Dog Day Afternoon follows an attempted Brooklyn bank robbery that collapses into a prolonged hostage standoff with police, the FBI and an increasingly fascinated crowd outside. Based on a real 1972 robbery, the film gradually reveals the personal motivation behind Sonnys desperate plan while exploring media attention, sexuality and public spectacle. The film received six Academy Award nominations and won Best Original Screenplay for Frank Pierson.

Från IMDB:
Three amateur robbers plan to hold up a Brooklyn bank. A nice, simple robbery: Walk in, take the money, and run. Unfortunately, the supposedly uncomplicated heist suddenly becomes a bizarre nightmare as everything that could go wrong does.
