Anton Corbijns The American stars George Clooney as a world-weary hitman hiding out in an Italian village for one final assignment. Minimalist, atmospheric, and morally ambiguous, the film trades fast-paced action for quiet tension and existential reflection blending assassin thriller, Euro-noir mood, and slow-burn suspense in the spirit of 1970s art thrillers.
